Mei Tai Wearing Instructions
Front Carry

The waist straps are on the bottom of the carrier. Sometimes they are horizontal to the carrier, other times they are angled. If you can’t tell which is the top and which is the bottom of your Mei Tai, the waist straps are usually shorter.
Tie the waist straps behind you with a double knot, the body of the Mei Tai baby carrier hanging down in front. Now hold baby against your chest and bring the body of the mei tai up behind him, one leg on each side.

Bring the other two straps, the shoulder straps, up and over your shoulders, cross them behind your back and then bring them around to the front. At this point, the body of the Mei Tai baby carrier should be supporting your child. For a smaller baby, bring the straps across his sides and tie behind his back. For an older baby, you may bring the straps of the mei tai carrier over or under his legs and then tie beneath his bottom.
Back Carry – Pass Method

Please have another adult available to help you get your baby on your back until you are confident and comfortable with the process.
For this carry, the waist straps will be tied with the body of Mei Tai in back. Sit down on a chair or bed and spread the carrier out behind you. Alternately, you may kneel down on a carpeted floor and lean forward.

Gently pass baby around to your back while leaning forward so that he comes to rest leaning against your back. Lift the Mei Tai baby carrier straps up and over your shoulders. Make sure that baby has one leg on each side of the Mei Tai. Hold the straps tightly in front of you and slowly stand up.At this point you might want to do a little bounce while you pull on the carrier to get your child high on your back. Wearing the carrier too low can put a lot of stress on your upper back and shoulders.

You may either bring the Mei Tai straps over your shoulders backpack style and then back under your baby for tying, or for a more secure carry, cross or twist the straps before bringing them back around to tie under baby’s bottom.
